Discografia de Switchfoot

Switchfoot es una banda de rock alternativo proveniente de San Diego, California, Estados Unidos. Alcanzaron su éxito prominente a los mediados de 2000. Según Jon Foreman, el nombre "Switchfoot" es un término utilizado en el ámbito del surf. "A todos nosotros nos encanta el surf y lo hemos practicado toda nuestra vida por lo que, para nosotros, el nombre tiene sentido. Posicionar tus pies significa tomar una nueva postura que enfrente la dirección opuesta. Se refiere al cambio y al movimiento, una manera de aproximarse a la vida y a la música."

Integrada por: Jon Foreman (voz y guitarra), Timothy Foreman (bajo), Chad Butler (batería), Jerome Fontamillas (guitarra y teclado), Andrew Shirley (guitarra) y Estefy Toukhmanian (guitarra)

Switchfoot nace en 1996 bajo el nombre "Chin Up", la cual la integraban Jon y su hermano Tim, junto con Chad en la batería. Después de una muestra, en 1997, la banda fue contactado por Charlie Peacock, y firmado en Rethink Records, una división de Sparrow Records. Donde la banda paso a llamarse "Switchfoot". y a distribuyen sus tres primeros álbumes, The Legend of Chin (1997), New Way to Be Human (1999) y Learning to Breathe (2000)

De estos el album Learning to Breathe fue el mas exitoso. Donde la RIAA lo certifico como álbum de Oro, y recibió una nominación al Grammy por Mejor Album de Rock Gospel.

En 2002 Switchfoot tuvo un gran papel en la película A Walk a Remember donde interpreto la canción "Only Hope" durante una escena de la película. La banda sonora de la película también incluyó un dúo con Mandy Moore y Jon Foreman, y hasta otros cuatro canciones mas de Switchfoot.

A principios de 2003 Switchfoot lanzó The Beautiful Letdown, el cual contribuyó el despegue de la banda e incorporandola a los sitios mas populares. Esto puede atribuirse al hecho de que el álbum fue el primero en incluir el teclista Jerome Fontamillas. Pero desde el 2000 Jerome solia viajar con Switchfoot, al surgir el disco Learning to Breathe.

The Beautiful Letdown ha sido certificado doble platino, y llegó a vender más de 2,6 millones de ejemplares, con la fuerza de constantes viajes y enormes éxitos de radio como lo fueron "Meant a Live" y "You Dare a Mover" (que recibió una Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award en 2005). Tambien fue certificado platino un DVD de la banda que fue grabado en vivo desde San Diego. "This Is Your Life" tujvo un exito rotundo en radios, tanto como en series. La canción "Gone" fue emitida enumerable veces por estaciones de radios cristianas.

En 2005, Switchfoot recibido cinco nominaciones Dove Award, y ganó cuatro, incluyendo Artista del año.

En el 2005 antes de la que naciera la produccion Nothing Is Sound, Switchfoot anuncia que el guitarrista Drew Shirley se incorporaba a la banda, siendo asi el quinto integrante, despues de estar junto a Switchfoot desde 2003.

Nothing Is Sound, salio a luz el 13 de septiembre de 2005. A fin de promover este álbum Switchfoot publica un sencillo denominado "Stars" y a posterior "We Are One Tonight".

El álbum debutó en la posición # 3 en el Billboard 200, algo memorable para esta banda que crecia a pasos agigantados.

En la primavera de 2006 la banda presentó "A video diary of life on the road", en forma de descargar libre via iTunes, donde presentaba los videos podcasts con fragmentos de canciones y proximas actuaciones en vivo. Estos fragmentos dan una mirada al interior de la banda.

Switchfoot lanza en 26 de diciembre del 2006 su produccion más reciente llamada Oh! Gravity. La cual gano una considerable aclamación crítica. Entrando en la tabla de Billboard # 18 y llegó a su nivel máximo en la posición # 1 en iTunes' Top Albums.

Antes de la liberación de este álbum, el 2 de junio, Switchfoot enviada por correo electrónico un boletín que contiene una descarga gratuita de la "Daylight to Break" y una declaración de Tim que implica que la banda quería tener un nuevo álbum a finales de año, Así como un agradecimiento a sus fans por ayudar a mantener a la banda juntos durante diez años.

Para promover el álbum, la banda lanzó por primera vez la canción, "Dirty Second Hands", a través de iTunes el 26 de septiembre. La canción "Oh! Gravity" también fue prepresentada en iTunes el 21 de octubre, y luego como el primer single del álbum, y luego para la radio el 31 de octubre. El segundo single del álbum es "Awakening". El video de esta canción recibió más de un millón de visitas en YouTube, en menos de tres meses. El 4 de septiembre del 2007, "Head Over Heels (In This Life)" fue lanzado por Switchfoot's Christian Label, Sparrow Records como el tercer single de Oh! Gravity.
